The World of Appliances Today by Rick Simler, Grand Appliance & TV Much has changed in the appliance industry in the last few years. Basically what we have today are two very different appliance groups being offered in today's market. One we refer to as the main stream manufactures. The other is the professional appliances manufactures. The main stream vendor consists of General Electric, Frigidaire and Whirlpool. These three companies have acquired lines we have come to know over the years such as Westinghouse, Kelvinator, Magic Chef, Admiral Maytag, Kitchenaid, Hotpoint, Caloric, ModernMaid and Amana just to name a few. We have also seen a new comer into the US market known as LG, and they are tending to make things a little tougher for the main stream lines by offering new innovative designs and performance features as well as reliability.
The Professional lines have thrived in our market place in the last five to seven years, and they are Wolf, Subzero, Viking, Thermador, Monogram BlueStar, Bosch, Asko Miele, Fisher&Paykel, Dacor, U-Line and Marvel. Why are we seeing so many professional lines today?
Today's consumers want more choices, more performance and better looking appliances. Features the professional lines bring to the table, not to mention they tend to be more reliable and longer lasting. We also see more cabinet fronts on refrigerators that are cabinet depth. Dishwashers also offer full overlay panels that hide the dishwasher and make it look like a cabinet. The professional lines offer ventilation that make it possible to have a char grill indoors. What the professional lines have to offer to today's customer is the ability to have a chefs kitchen in your own home.
Some other new items are microwaves that are drawers, dish washer drawers, beverage centers and under counter wine coolers/refrigeration. Cabinet depth refrigerators are available in both mainstream and professional lines. Front load washers that use 1/3 less water than a top loader uses and cleans better in less time. Microwaves that can speed bake four chicken breast under ten minutes that are golden brown and juicy.
As you can see if you have not been in the appliance market lately much has changed. Today's customers have more choices then ever and can go in any direction they wish. As far as budgets are concerned you can outfit a kitchen nicely with a stainless appliance package starting at $1599 or you can invest $20,000 or more depending on how many appliances you incorporate and the overall design of your kitchen.
